One significant change Dr. Spann implemented after recovering from his accident--and returning to his medical practice where he currently performs spine surgeries and manages the care of patients with orthopaedic illnesses and sports injuries--was to take more time with his patients in an effort to assist them to make informed and responsible decisions about their health and to help them maintain the highest levels of independence and personal fulfillment.
Scott Spann, MD was one of the earliest adopters in the world to use autologous stem cells in clinical settings. Autologous stem cells are stem cells that are harvested from the individual patient, not embryonic stem cells taken from a fetus, to enhance the body’s healing of any number of orthopaedic conditions including spine fusions and the repair of bones, cartilage, and tendons. The use of autologous stem cells enhances the body’s natural ability to heal these orthopaedic conditions that are typically very difficult to achieve positive patient outcomes.
Additionally, Dr. Spann has been integral in the design of numerous innovative orthopaedic products for several orthopaedic device companies, as well as holding a number of United States and international patents for orthopaedic procedures and products. |
